Mouse Scrolling in the Wrong Direction? How to Fix It
If rolling your scroll wheel down makes the page move up, your system's scroll direction setting has almost certainly been flipped — either by you, an update, or vendor software fighting with it. Occasionally dust in the optical scroll encoder is the real cause, producing a signal that reads as reversed.
First, see exactly which direction your wheel is sending.

Open Settings (Win + I) → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse. Under the Scrolling section, change the Scrolling direction drop-down to "Down motion scrolls down." This is the fix for the vast majority of cases — it's a setting, not a hardware fault, and it takes effect immediately with no restart needed.
2. Clean the scroll wheel sensor
Dust and hair inside the wheel housing can produce erratic or genuinely inverted scrolling signals, not just skipping. Give the scroll wheel a few sharp bursts of compressed air while spinning it rapidly to clear out anything trapped around the encoder.
3. Swap USB ports
Plug the mouse directly into a USB port on your PC or motherboard instead of through an unpowered USB hub. A hub that can't supply consistent power sometimes causes a wired mouse's scroll signal to behave unpredictably, including reading as reversed.
4. Disable Tablet Mode (Windows 10)
Make sure Tablet Mode is turned off in the Windows Action Center. It can force touch-style scroll behavior — which follows the opposite convention from a traditional mouse wheel — across every app, even with a mouse plugged in.
Using Razer, Logitech, or another vendor's software?
Check the scroll direction setting inside Razer Synapse or Logitech Options+ as well. Vendor software has its own scroll setting that can silently override or conflict with the Windows setting above — if you only change one of the two, the mouse can end up back where it started after a reboot.
