Why Is My Mouse Double-Clicking on a Single Click?
A single click registering twice is almost always caused by mechanical switch wear — commonly called key chatter — or an overly sensitive Windows double-click threshold. You can usually resolve it in a few minutes by adjusting software debounce, cleaning the switch, or tweaking a couple of settings, no new mouse required.
First, confirm it's actually happening and how often.

Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse → Additional mouse settings. Under the Buttons tab, move the double-click speed slider slightly toward Fast. This narrows the window Windows uses to register two clicks as one double-click, which reduces (but doesn't eliminate) accidental double-triggers from a slightly worn switch.
2. Increase the software debounce time
If your mouse has vendor software — Logitech G HUB, Razer Synapse, SteelSeries GG, or a generic tool like X-Mouse Button Control — look for a Debounce Time setting and raise it to somewhere around 8ms–12ms. This tells the mouse to ignore any second signal that arrives within that window, which is exactly the accidental double-trigger a worn switch produces. It's the single most effective software fix, and it's free.
3. Blow out static or dust
Unplug or power off the mouse. Use compressed air to blow under the left and right click buttons while repeatedly pressing them to help dislodge anything trapped inside the switch housing. Dust or static buildup around the contacts occasionally causes a switch to bounce even when it isn't significantly worn — this is a five-minute check worth ruling out before assuming the switch itself is dying.
4. Update the mouse drivers
Open Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click your mouse, and select Update driver. A stale or corrupted HID driver rarely causes double-clicking on its own, but it's a quick check, especially if the double-clicking started right after a Windows update.

If it only shows up in Valorant, Minecraft, or another game, the underlying cause is the same worn switch — games just have tighter input timing, so a bounce that's invisible in everyday use fires a second shot, block placement, or menu selection.
